Photography or filming in a railway area

Photography or filming in a railway area requires a permit when the activities occur in areas where unauthorised access is prohibited by law, such as railway yards, tunnels, bridges or other track areas.

No permit is required for taking photos or videos in places open to the public, such as passenger platforms. However, especially in larger-scale shoots, we would like to be contacted in advance so that we can provide advice on safety issues and inform railway personnel of the production if necessary.

Photography or filming in places open to the public

The cameraperson or photographer must ensure safety during the shoot. The cameraperson or photographer is responsible for any costs related to the shoot and any harm or damage caused by the shoot.
When taking photos or filming videos in a place open to the public, observe the following instructions to ensure the safety of the photographer/cameraperson and undisturbed traffic:
•    The photo or video shoot must not cause disturbances to train traffic or passengers.
•    You may not go on the track.
•    You must stay at least 1.5 metres away from the platform edge unless you are boarding or leaving a train.
•    Whenever using long objects (e.g. microphones, lights), pay particular attention to the fact that the structures of the electrified line have a high voltage; maintain a safety distance of at least 3 metres. In addition, the crew must be mindful of the roof structures of electric locomotives and the pantograph.
•    Lights and other structures must not be raised above the catenaries or be placed so that they could fall on the catenaries or the track.
•    The lights must not cause glare that could impair the vision of the locomotive driver or passengers on platforms or elsewhere within the railway area.
•    Driving a vehicle in the platform area is prohibited.
•    Pay attention to the principles and rules for flying a drone (droneinfo.fi)
•    We hope that no graffiti is visible in the pictures.
•    In other respects, statutory regulations on filming in public spaces must be followed.
